Those are the names you’ll see on the ambulances owned and operated by Sweeny Community Hospital as separate divisions of one emergency medical service. The EMS operates out of 2 stations one in Sweeny and one in Brazoria. The hospital’s EMS provides ambulance service to approximately 35,000 people in a combined 1,200-square-mile area that includes the hospital district, Brazoria and many outlying communities.
Sweeny/West Brazos EMS has five ambulances and 18 full-time medics, and 6 part time medics. Including Texas certified paramedics, EMT-Intermediates and EMT-Basics.
SCH has the only ambulances in Brazoria County certified as Mobile Intensive Care Units – the highest level designated by the Texas Department of Health for EMS organizations.
Ambulance service also is available for non-emergency transfers from home for medical office appointments, dialysis and other transportation needs to and from medical facilities. The EMS also provides transfers from one hospital to other facilities if requested.
When they’re not busy providing emergency care, the hospital’s EMS crews are visible throughout the area, giving flu shots, standing by to provide first aid at local festivals and parades, or participating in school and Scouting events throughout the hospital’s service area.
