Weight Management Program

New Direction is a medically supervised very low-calorie diet, utilizing 4 servings of nutritional beverages totaling 800 calories per day. While clients lose weight, they receive medical monitoring, group support and education about nutrition, exercise and behavior modification. To participate in the program, women must be at least 40 pounds overweight and men at least 50 pounds. Patients must also pass a medical and behavorial screening.

A team of experienced dietitians, behaviorists, exercise physiologists, nurses and physicians will help you through the three phases of the program- Reducing, adapting and Sustaining. Weight loss averages 2 to 5 pounds per week. Phase one (Reducing Phase) lasts up to 12 weeks. Phase Two (Adapting Phase) begins in the 13th week and may continue indefinitely, as long as the patient is healthy and losing weight. The Sustaining Phase is optional but highly recommended. It lasts a minimum of 6 months. New Directions is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid and Sweeny Community Hospital does not file insurance claims for this program.

At this time, the New Directions Weight Loss Program is under reconstruction.  If you would like to be included on the list to recieve information as  we refine this program,  please call (979) 548-1807.
