The Sweeny Hospital District’s Meals Made With Care Program is currently accepting applicants. This service delivers freshly made, nutritionally balanced meals to area senior citizens, as it has been since its inception in 1997. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday (with the exception of holidays) between the hours of 10am and 12pm. All meals are $3.25 each and clients are charged only for the meals they receive. Billing for this program is done on a monthly basis, and payments are accepted in the form of cash, check, money order, or credit card. Applications for this program are available by contacting Cammie Christie at 979-548-1532. The application should take no longer than 10 minutes to fill out and may be completed over the phone. If you wish to make a tax deductible donation to Meals Made With Care, please contact the number above.

This service is provided by the Sweeny Hospital District to meet the needs of local senior citizens who may not otherwise be able to have a fresh, hot meal during the day. It is a not-for-profit operation, with all monies received going directly into the program’s operating costs. The Meals Made With Care Program thanks all its generous benefactors who help keep the program afloat. Special thanks goes to the Sweeny Fire and Rescue Auxiliary in conjunction with the Sweeny Pride Day Queen Contest. The young ladies who competed in this year’s contest raised over $750.00 to support Meals Made With Care. It is contributions like this from the community that help to offset any additional costs the program incurs.

Sweeny Community Hospital’s Laboratory and Cardiopulmonary Departments have been awarded the Laboratory Excellence Award by COLA, a national healthcare accreditation organization for laboratory medicine. COLA is a physician-directed organization whose purpose is to promote excellence in patient care through a program of voluntary education, consultation, and accreditation of medical laboratories. Focus is given to revised quality control requirements, incorporation of quality systems processes to all categories of the laboratory’s path of workflow, and attention to current and valid laboratory information systems. Accreditation is given only to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey. The Laboratory Excellence Award is achieved by those COLA laboratories that are found to be complaint with all COLA essential and required criteria, as well as continued demonstration of successful proficiency testing for the prior three testing events and have received no valid complaints against laboratory testing procedures. Sweeny Community Hospital has earned COLA accreditation as a result of its commitment to provide quality service to the West of the Brazos Community it has served for the past 45 years. For more information on COLA, you may visit their website by follwing this LINK.
